Winter returned to Upton on Severn this week. We arrived at the ground around mid day in a blinding hail storm. The poor souls out shooting were getting a serious soaking while those of us taking shelter were little better off with the cold wet stuff being driven horizontally through the outdoor covers. Fortunately, an hour later we had a dry afternoon with a well modified course.
After a close and competetive session, Geoff Pomroy took the scratch Gold medal place with a superb 83 broken clays. Len was runner up 7 targets further behind, (having dropped 9 on the last two stands). Jonathan Skelding had an interesting day. Not for the first time, his.410 pump action refused to play ball or cycle cartridges. However, using a borrowed gun, he still managed third place with a creditable 74 broken targets. Geoff’s score also earned him the Handicap top spot by the narrowest of margins from Len, (just one tenth of a point behind) Tony Gray took the Handicap third place another half a point behind Len. Apart from the bitter cold weather, a super afternoon’s shooting at a fine mixture of hitable targets.
